For flowmeters without a ball valve, they should be installed on a non-pressurized pipeline. This non-pressurized setup allows for the selection of flowmeters without a ball valve.

In situations that require continuous flow during loading and unloading, or where media overflow is not permitted, a ball valve is essential. This means opting for an insertion-type electromagnetic flowmeter with a ball valve structure.

The measurement principle of the electromagnetic flowmeter is independent of the flow characteristics.
Turbulence and vortices generated in the non-measurement area of the pipeline (e.g., elbows, tangential throttling, or a partially open shut-off valve upstream) will not impact measurement.
However, steady-state vortices in the measurement area will affect stability and accuracy.
In such cases, measures should be taken to stabilize the flow distribution:
1.2. Pipeline-type electromagnetic flowmeter
2.1. Requirements for straight sections To mitigate the effects of vortices and flow field distortion, there are specific requirements for the lengths of the straight pipe sections upstream and downstream of the flowmeter. If these requirements are not met, measurement accuracy will be affected. A straightener can also be installed, and it is advisable to avoid installation close to control valves and partially open valves.
2.2. Requirements for the process pipes The flowmeter has specific requirements for the upstream and downstream process pipes at the installation point to ensure measurement accuracy. a. The inner diameter of the upstream and downstream process pipes should match that of the sensor and must meet the condition: 0.98DN ≤ D ≤ 1.05DN (where DN is the inner diameter of the sensor, and D is the inner diameter of the process pipe). b. The process pipe and the sensor must be concentric, with an axial deviation not exceeding 0.05DN.
2.3. Requirements for Bypass Pipes To ensure seamless maintenance and uninterrupted operation of the flowmeter, the installation of a bypass pipe is strongly recommended. This is particularly crucial in scenarios involving highly contaminated fluids or when the flowmeter requires cleaning without halting the fluid flow. a. Streamline maintenance procedures by installing a bypass pipe. b. Mandatory installation for processing heavily contaminated fluids. c. Essential for circumstances where fluid flow must remain continuous during flowmeter cleaning.
3. Installation Requirements for Insertion-Type Electromagnetic Flowmeters
3.1. Requirements for Straight Pipe Sections Straight pipe sections are essential for optimal performance: Ensure the inlet section is at least 10×DN and the outlet section is at least 5×DN.
3.2. Requirements for Grounding Points For reliable instrument operation and enhanced measurement accuracy, it is crucial to minimize the impact of external parasitic potentials. Ensure the sensor is grounded effectively, with a grounding resistance of less than 10 ohms. (A dedicated grounding device is not necessary if the metal pipeline is already well-grounded.)
