The installation of the electromagnetic flowmeter varies depending on the site pipeline conditions. For flowmeters without a ball valve, they should be installed on a non-pressurized pipeline. This non-pressurized setup allows for the selection of flowmeters without a ball valve.
A hole with a diameter of 50mm should be made in the pipeline, and steps taken to weld a connecting pipe to the opening.
In situations that require continuous flow during loading and unloading, or where media overflow is not permitted, a ball valve is essential. This means opting for an insertion-type electromagnetic flowmeter with a ball valve structure.

The requirements for the straight pipe sections are 5D upstream and 3D downstream. This ensures the proper functioning of the electromagnetic flowmeter and meets accuracy requirements.

The measurement principle of the electromagnetic flowmeter is independent of the flow characteristics.
Turbulence and vortices generated in the non-measurement area of the pipeline (e.g., elbows, tangential throttling, or a partially open shut-off valve upstream) will not impact measurement.

However, steady-state vortices in the measurement area will affect stability and accuracy.
In such cases, measures should be taken to stabilize the flow distribution:

  1. Increase the length of the straight pipe sections upstream and downstream.
  2. Use a flow stabilizer.
  3. Reduce the cross-section of the measurement point.
  1. Requirements for the external environment
    1. The flowmeter should avoid areas with significant temperature fluctuations or high-temperature radiation. If installation in such areas is necessary, insulation and ventilation measures must be taken.
    2. It is best to install the flowmeter indoors. If outdoor installation is necessary, it should be protected from rain, flooding, and direct sunlight, with moisture-proof and sun-proof measures implemented.
    3. Avoid installing the flowmeter in environments with corrosive gases. If unavoidable, ensure proper ventilation measures.
    4. Ensure ample space around the flowmeter for installation, maintenance, and upkeep.
    5. The flowmeter should be installed away from magnetic fields and strong vibration sources. If the pipeline has significant vibration, supports should be provided on both sides of the flowmeter to stabilize the pipeline.

1.2. Pipeline-type electromagnetic flowmeter

2.1. Requirements for straight sections To mitigate the effects of vortices and flow field distortion, there are specific requirements for the lengths of the straight pipe sections upstream and downstream of the flowmeter. If these requirements are not met, measurement accuracy will be affected. A straightener can also be installed, and it is advisable to avoid installation close to control valves and partially open valves.

2.2. Requirements for the process pipes The flowmeter has specific requirements for the upstream and downstream process pipes at the installation point to ensure measurement accuracy. a. The inner diameter of the upstream and downstream process pipes should match that of the sensor and must meet the condition: 0.98DN ≤ D ≤ 1.05DN (where DN is the inner diameter of the sensor, and D is the inner diameter of the process pipe). b. The process pipe and the sensor must be concentric, with an axial deviation not exceeding 0.05DN.

2.3. Requirements for Bypass Pipes To ensure seamless maintenance and uninterrupted operation of the flowmeter, the installation of a bypass pipe is strongly recommended. This is particularly crucial in scenarios involving highly contaminated fluids or when the flowmeter requires cleaning without halting the fluid flow. a. Streamline maintenance procedures by installing a bypass pipe. b. Mandatory installation for processing heavily contaminated fluids. c. Essential for circumstances where fluid flow must remain continuous during flowmeter cleaning.

3. Installation Requirements for Insertion-Type Electromagnetic Flowmeters

3.1. Requirements for Straight Pipe Sections Straight pipe sections are essential for optimal performance: Ensure the inlet section is at least 10×DN and the outlet section is at least 5×DN.

3.2. Requirements for Grounding Points For reliable instrument operation and enhanced measurement accuracy, it is crucial to minimize the impact of external parasitic potentials. Ensure the sensor is grounded effectively, with a grounding resistance of less than 10 ohms. (A dedicated grounding device is not necessary if the metal pipeline is already well-grounded.)
