Installation Instructions
 

The installation of the electromagnetic flowmeter varies depending on the site pipeline conditions. Flowmeters without a ball valve should be fitted on a non-pressurized pipeline (i.e., non-pressurized installation allows for the selection of flowmeters without a ball valve).
A hole with a diameter of 50 mm should be made in the pipeline, and preparations should be made to weld a connecting pipe to the opening in the pipeline.
For situations requiring continuous flow during loading and unloading or where media overflow is not permitted, a ball valve must be added. This necessitates selecting an insertion-type electromagnetic flowmeter with a ball valve structure.
A hole with a diameter of 50 mm should be made in the pipeline, and preparations should be made to weld a connecting pipe to the opening in the pipeline.

The requirements for the straight pipe sections are 5D upstream and 3D downstream, ensuring the proper use of the electromagnetic flowmeter and meeting the accuracy requirements.

The measurement principle of the electromagnetic flowmeter does not depend on the characteristics of the flow.
If turbulence and vortices are generated in the non-measurement area of the pipeline (such as elbows, tangential throttling, or a partially open shut-off valve upstream), it will not affect the measurement.

However, if steady-state vortices are present in the measurement area, it will impact the stability and accuracy of the measurement.
In such cases, measures should be taken to stabilize the flow distribution:

  1. Increase the length of the straight pipe sections upstream and downstream.
  2. Use a flow stabilizer.
  3. Reduce the cross-section of the measurement point.
  1. Requirements for the External Environment
    1. The flowmeter should avoid installation in areas with significant temperature fluctuations or where it is subjected to high-temperature radiation from equipment. If installation is necessary, insulation and ventilation measures must be taken.
    2. The flowmeter is best installed indoors. If it must be installed outdoors, it should be protected from rain, flooding, and direct sunlight, with moisture-proof and sun-proof measures in place.
    3. The flowmeter should avoid installation in environments containing corrosive gases. If installation is necessary, ventilation measures must be implemented.
    4. To facilitate installation, maintenance, and upkeep, there should be ample installation space around the flowmeter.
    5. The installation site of the flowmeter should avoid magnetic fields and strong vibration sources. If there is significant vibration in the pipeline, supports should be provided on both sides of the flowmeter to stabilize the pipeline.

1.2. Pipeline-type Electromagnetic Flowmeter

2.1. Requirements for Straight Sections To mitigate the effects of vortices and flow field distortion, there are specific requirements for the lengths of the straight pipe sections upstream and downstream of the flowmeter; otherwise, measurement accuracy will be affected. A straightener can also be installed, and it is advisable to avoid installation close to control valves and partially open valves.

2.2. Requirements for the Process Pipes The flowmeter has specific requirements for the upstream and downstream process pipes at the installation point; otherwise, measurement accuracy will be affected. a. The inner diameter of the upstream and downstream process pipes should be the same as that of the sensor and must meet the condition: 0.98DN ≤ D ≤ 1.05DN (where DN is the inner diameter of the sensor, and D is the inner diameter of the process pipe). b. The process pipe and the sensor must be concentric, with an axial deviation not exceeding 0.05DN.

2.3. Requirements for Bypass Pipes To ensure the seamless maintenance of the flowmeter, the installation of a bypass pipe is highly recommended. For environments dealing with heavily contaminated fluids, and scenarios where cleaning the flowmeter without halting the fluid flow is essential, a bypass pipe is imperative. a. Simplifies maintenance procedures for the flowmeter. b. Essential for handling heavily contaminated fluids. c. Ensures fluid flow continuity during flowmeter cleaning.

3. Installation Requirements for Insertion-Type Electromagnetic Flowmeters

3.1. Requirements for Straight Pipe Sections Straight Pipe Section Specifications: The inlet should be at least 10 times the nominal diameter (≥ 10×DN), and the outlet should be at least 5 times the nominal diameter (≥ 5×DN).

3.2. Requirements for Grounding Points For ensuring the instrument's reliable operation and enhancing measurement precision, it is crucial to avoid interference from external parasitic potentials. The sensor should be properly grounded, achieving a grounding resistance of less than 10 ohms. (If the metal pipeline is already well-grounded, a dedicated grounding device is not necessary.)
