The installation of the ANSI Electromagnetic Flowmeter must be tailored to the specific pipeline conditions of the site. For pipelines without a ball valve, it is essential to install the flowmeter on a non-pressurized pipeline. This non-pressurized installation allows for the selection of flowmeters that do not require a ball valve.
A precise 50-mm diameter hole should be made in the pipeline. Preparations must be made to weld a connecting pipe to the newly created opening.
In scenarios requiring continuous flow during loading and unloading, or where media overflow is strictly prohibited, it is imperative to add a ball valve. This necessitates selecting an insertion-type electromagnetic flowmeter with an integrated ball valve structure.
A precise 50-mm diameter hole should be made in the pipeline. Preparations must be made to weld a connecting pipe to the newly created opening.

The flowmeter mandates specific requirements for straight pipe sections: 5D upstream and 3D downstream. This ensures optimal use and meets the stringent accuracy requirements of the electromagnetic flowmeter.

The measurement principle of the electromagnetic flowmeter remains unaffected by the flow characteristics.
Even if turbulence and vortices are generated in non-measurement areas of the pipeline (such as elbows, tangential throttling, or a partially open shut-off valve upstream), they will not influence the measurement accuracy.

However, if steady-state vortices occur within the measurement area, they will compromise the stability and accuracy of the readings.
In such cases, it is crucial to take measures to stabilize the flow distribution:

  1. Increase the length of the straight pipe sections both upstream and downstream.
  2. Install a flow stabilizer.
  3. Reduce the cross-sectional area at the measurement point.
  1. Requirements for the External Environment
    1. Ensure the flowmeter is installed away from areas with significant temperature fluctuations or high-temperature radiation. If installation in these areas is unavoidable, appropriate insulation and ventilation measures must be implemented.
    2. Ideally, the flowmeter should be installed indoors. If outdoor installation is necessary, protect the flowmeter from rain, flooding, and direct sunlight, with effective moisture-proof and sun-proof measures.
    3. Avoid installing the flowmeter in environments with corrosive gases. If such installation is unavoidable, ensure adequate ventilation measures are in place.
    4. To facilitate hassle-free installation, maintenance, and upkeep, ensure there is ample installation space around the flowmeter.
    5. The installation site should be free from magnetic fields and strong vibration sources. If the pipeline experiences significant vibration, provide supports on both sides of the flowmeter to stabilize the pipeline.

1.2. Pipeline-type Electromagnetic Flowmeter

2.1. Requirements for Straight Sections To minimize the effects of vortices and flow field distortion, adhere to specific length requirements for the straight pipe sections upstream and downstream of the flowmeter. Failure to do so will affect measurement accuracy (installation of a straightener is also advisable, and avoid installing the flowmeter near control valves and partially open valves).

2.2. Requirements for Process Pipes The flowmeter has precise requirements for upstream and downstream process pipes at the installation point to ensure measurement accuracy. a. The inner diameter of the upstream and downstream process pipes should align with that of the sensor and meet the condition: 0.98DN ≤ D ≤ 1.05DN (where DN is the sensor's inner diameter, and D is the process pipe's inner diameter). b. The process pipe and the sensor must be concentric, with an axial deviation not exceeding 0.05DN.

2.3. Requirements for Bypass Pipes To ensure seamless maintenance of your flowmeter, installing a bypass pipe becomes essential. For situations involving heavily contaminated fluids or scenarios where cleaning the flowmeter without halting fluid flow is necessary, a bypass pipe is indispensable. a. Ease of maintenance for your flowmeter. b. Necessary for heavily contaminated fluids. c. Enables cleaning of the flowmeter without disrupting the fluid flow.

3. Installation Requirements for Insertion-Type Electromagnetic Flowmeters

3.1. Requirements for Straight Pipe Sections Ensure optimal performance by adhering to the straight pipe section requirements: The inlet straight pipe section should be at least 10 times the diameter of the nominal diameter (≥ 10×DN), and the outlet straight pipe section should be at least 5 times the diameter of the nominal diameter (≥ 5×DN).

3.2. Requirements for Grounding Points To guarantee reliable operation and enhance measurement precision, proper grounding is crucial. The sensor must be well-grounded with a grounding resistance of less than 10 ohms. This ensures the instrument is not affected by external parasitic potentials. (A dedicated grounding device is unnecessary if the metal pipeline is already well-grounded.)

3.3. Requirements for Installation Position Refer to the accompanying diagram for accurate installation positioning.
